Mohawk SmartStrand® with DuPont™ Sorona® Renewably Sourced Polymer

Mohawk leads innovation in sustainable flooring with SmartStrand® carpet with DuPont™ Sorona® renewably sourced polymer. In a partnership with DuPont, this carpet exclusively offers fiber made with Bio-PDO™ (the key Sorona® ingredient), which is produced from corn sugar.

By utilizing this new ingredient, 37% of Sorona® is being made from renewable resources. This marks the first time that a luxuriously soft carpet offers durability and stain protection, while also making less of an environmental impact.

Why is this carpet environmentally smart?

  • The production of Sorona® polymer requires 30% less energy than the production of an equal amount of nylon.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions from the production of Sorona® are 63% lower than nylon manufacturing.
  • This energy reduction results in approximately one gallon of gasoline saved per every seven square yards of carpet.

The superior stain resistance of SmartStrand® carpet is engineered into the fiber.

It will never wear or wash off, meaning consumers will never need to retreat the carpet with stain protectors after steam cleaning. This engineered-in stain resistance reaches new levels of protection, allowing tough stains to be removed simply with warm water and a mild detergent, or with Mohawk FloorCare™ Essentials. The fiber even resists discoloration from bleach.

DuPont™, Sorona® and Bio-PDO™ are trademarks or registered trademarks of DuPont or its affiliates.

Special patterns, murals, and logos are popular examples of the flexibility of mosaic tile.

Small unit mosaics are available in an array of exciting colors and are stain resistant. Unglazed mosaic is typically applied in commercial environments for walls, floors, decorative murals, and logos. Glazed mosaics are frequently used in light usage areas as a compliment to the unglazed mosaic products. Both glazed and unglazed mosaic tiles are regularly used in bathrooms for both residential and commercial purposes.

There is virtually a limitless selection of wall tiles.

Wall tiles can consist of square tiles, larger wall tiles that coordinate the floor tiles, compliment trim and angle pieces. You will find glazed wall tile for almost any application; interior walls, shower walls, countertops, vanity tops, ceilings, kitchen backsplashes, tub surrounds and light-duty residential floors.

Regular care and upkeep will keep your area rugs looking great.

Regular vacuuming is the single most important thing you can do to care for your new area rug, but be careful that any fringes don’t get pulled or torn by the vacuum cleaner.

Rotate your rug 180 degrees every few months, or every year, depending on traffic patterns. Rotation is necessary for two reasons. First, all parts of your rug should be exposed to light equally so if the colors fade, they do so evenly. Second, all parts of the rug should be exposed to an equal amount of traffic so that the pile wears evenly.

A water spill should be spot dried immediately and then with a hairdryer set on a warm temperature. Try to dry both sides of your rug if possible. In case of a soft drink or alcohol spill, apply salt or baking soda to the spot for a few minutes to absorb the color of the drink. Then vacuum off the salt or baking soda. After vacuuming, use a wet towel to gently wipe the stain in the direction of the nap (the direction the pile faces). You can wet the towel with regular or carbonated water. Be gentle; do not scrub your rug.

Have your rug washed by a professional every 2 to 5 years depending on the amount of traffic on the rug. It is important to have it washed professionally because, as the rug is used, dust, dirt and broken fiber get into the foundation. Professionals dust the rug with special equipment to get all of these elements out of the foundation before washing the rug. Then, they usually wash the rug by hand using natural soap.

Padding is an important element and will both stabilize and protect your rug. Good padding also makes it safer to walk on your rug and will protect its value and appearance.

Our selection of area rugs and rug fibers vary greatly. When you purchase your individual rug(s) we can advise you of the best care for that particular rug.

Essentially, all area rugs are very low maintenance and add incredible beauty and style to your home.

Caring for your Vinyl Flooring

  • Clean floor using a vacuum, broom, dust mop or wipe with damp cloth.
  • For spills just wipe up with cloth or sponge.
  • In sandy areas keep floor clean at all times to avoid surface scratching.
  • Do not use soap-based detergents or “mop & shine” products as they may leave a dull film on your floor. Use an approved cleaner from the Manufacturer!
  • Do not wax or polish your floor.
  • Use a well-squeezed damp mop for cleaning. Never flood floor with water or cleaner. After damp mopping, dry floor thoroughly with clean cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring powder, which can scratch your floor.
  • Remove tough spots like shoe polish, tar & asphalt driveway sealer, paint, adhesive or oil with alcohol or nail polish remover containing acetone. Follow instructions on label.
  • Place rugs or floor mats at entry doors to collect tracked-in dirt & absorb excess moisture.

  • Do not use soap-based detergents or “mop & shine” products as they may leave a dull film on your floor.

Caring for your Ceramic Tile

Maintenance of glazed floor tile consists of nothing more than sweeping, vacuuming or dry or damp mopping with clean, clear water. It should not be necessary to use any type of detergent on a glazed tile floor since the detergent can leave a film that will dull the appearance of the tile. In the case of a glazed floor tile with a high-gloss finish, one cap-full of white vinegar or ammonia can be added to one gallon of warm water to dissipate any water streaks.

If a cleaner must be used on a glazed tile floor, a commercial tile cleaner or a solution of soapless detergent may be used. The surface should be scrubbed, rinsed thoroughly with clean water and dried.

For heavy duty cleaning, a very mild solution of phosphoric or sulfamic acid based cleaner may be applied after initial curing stage (30 days after installation). Gentle agitation and a thorough rinsing should rid the tile of any residue or soil.

Normal maintenance of glazed wall tile used on countertops and light duty floors usually consists of wiping with a damp cloth or sponge. The use of multi-purpose household cleaners or window cleaners is acceptable as long as any cleaner residue is removed with a clean water rinse.

Shower areas generally require more periodic cleaning in order to remove soap scum, body oils and hard water deposit buildup. Normally, shower areas may be cleaned by spraying an all-purpose cleaner on the tile, letting it stand for 3-5 minutes and then rinsing. A white vinegar and water solution should remove most hard water stains.

For heavy duty cleaning, we recommend a commercial tile cleaner.

To remove mildew we suggest a commercial tile cleaner, commercial fungicide, chlorine bleach or ammonia. If discoloration remains, a bleaching agent (chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide) wiped over the area should remove it. All treated areas should be rinsed well and wiped dry with a clean, soft towel.

Care and Maintenance Do’s and Don’ts

  • Do test cleansing agents in a small area before applying to entire installation.
  • Do apply grout sealer after grout has had time to cure (approx. 30 days).
  • Do read cleansing product directions thoroughly prior to use.
  • Do routine maintenance of your tile.
  • Do use clean, clear water when cleaning your tile.
  • Don’t combine ammonia and bleach.
  • Don’t use hydrofluoric or muriatic acids on tile or grout.
  • Don’t use steel wool or colored cleansing agents.
  • Don’t use detergent, petroleum or animal fat-based cleaners.
  • Don’t wax your tile.

Caring for your Hardwood Flooring

Vacuum or sweep your floor once a week, or more if needed. The vacuum head must be brush or felt. Do not use vacuums with beater bars or hard heads. A good quality dust mop is also highly recommended to eliminate finer particles of grit and dirt that can act like sandpaper on a hardwood floor. Keep animal nails trimmed to prevent finish scratches. Keep animal paws clean & free of dirt, gravel grease, oil & stains.

If your floor abuts exterior doors, place outside doormats at the entrances to keep dirt and moisture from being tracked in. Inside, you’ll want to add an area rug to further prevent dirt and moisture from being tracked onto your hardwood floor. Don’t use rubber, foam back or plastic mats as they may trap moisture and possibly discolor your floor.

Spills and tracked-in dirt should be cleaned immediately. Using a Hardwood Flooring Cleaner, lightly apply to the surface and wipe with a sponge mop or a soft cloth. Excess cleaner that does not evaporate immediately should be dried with a clean towel. No rinsing is necessary.

DO:

  • Wipe up spills immediately.
  • Use door mats and throw rugs outside room entrances and in front of kitchen sink and refrigerator to help keep dirt and grit off your floor, and to prevent damage and excessive wear.
  • Place runners and area rugs (with slip-resistant backings) along high-traffic areas.
  • Move heavy appliances and furniture by using a dolly rolled over plywood or pressed board.
  • Use furniture leg protector pads under all furniture legs. Use self-leveling nylon/felt bottoms on chairs & cut to fit felt under all furniture.
  • Replace hard, narrow furniture rollers with wide rubber rollers.
  • Keep the relative humidity in your home between 35% and 55%.
  • Protect your floor from direct sunlight.

DON’T:

  • Use any of the following products (or products similar in nature) on your floor: ammonia based cleaners, acrylic finishes, wax based products, detergents, bleach, polishes and oil soaps, or abrasive cleaning soaps.
  • Allow water to stand on your floor for any length of time.
  • Walk across your floor in poorly maintained shoes with heel taps, spike heels or with any sharp object protruding from your shoe.
  • Allow furniture to rest on the floor on small metal tips or hard domes.

Keeping your carpet in beautiful condition is easy with a few simple care guidelines.

Place walk-off mats wherever there are entrances to your home from high-soil areas like backyards, garages and so on. A few dollars invested in these mats can prevent a lot of dirt and grime from being tracked across your beautiful new carpet.

A good vacuum cleaner can be your carpet’s best friend. Buy a quality vacuum and use it regularly. There have been significant improvements to vacuum cleaners in the past few years, making them easier to use and better at doing their job. Thorough vacuuming removes loose dirt and dust from the fibers. Over time, these particles dull your carpet’s appearance. Frequent vacuuming maintains the beauty of your floor covering and extends its life.

Remember that carpet cushion plays an important role in preserving the look and feel of your carpet. Investing in a good carpet cushion prevents your carpet from matting and crushing underfoot, as well as offering its own level of soil and stain protection. A good carpet pad also provides ventilation between the carpet and the floor, making vacuuming easier and more efficient.

Looped carpets can snag especially at a seam or a carpet transition. Don’t vacuum over loose yarn or try to pull out the snag. Carefully snip the yarn flush with the carpet and without catching any surrounding loops.
Carpet that is near windows and patio doors can be subjected to harmful ultraviolet rays. These rays can deteriorate the carpets appearance and ability to withstand wear. Be sure to use window treatments that offer some protection against sunlight.

Treat spots as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more the stain will soak into the fibers. Immediately blot up as much of the liquid or debris as possible with a dry cloth or paper towel. Don’t rub or scrub the area with a rag as this damages the fibers and may create a permanent scar. Use warm, not hot, water to rinse the stained area completely. Hot water can set the stain and make it difficult if not impossible to remove. Press clean cloths deeply into the carpet to take up moisture until the stain no longer appears on the cloth. If a stain remover is needed, blot up excess moisture before applying, work gently and do not over apply the stain remover. Next, thoroughly rinse the area with warm water. Then, absorb the excess dampness with a clean cloth. After your carpet has dried, vacuum to restore its texture and appearance.

Be sure to read the care and maintenance literature provided by the manufacturer because different fibers, styles and finishes can each have their own unique guidelines.

The regular maintenance and periodic professional cleaning of this flooring solution will insure a home of beauty and comfort for years to come – with and without your shoes on!

Ultimate Performance Depends on Quality Installation

Even if you are good at home improvements, know that installing carpet, vinyl, laminate, ceramics and hardwood requires a specialized skill. A quality installation is critical to the performance of your flooring and will help protect your indoor air quality.

Each type of flooring product requires a different process. Rest assured that the right installer specialist for each flooring project is assigned and that person takes great pride in completing the project professionally and on time!

At a pre-scheduled time, our skilled and experienced installers will come to your home to install the flooring product you’ve ordered. Once the installation is complete, you can be assured that we have extended the life of your flooring investment with our quality installation services.

We do our very best to insure a smooth transition.

When two different flooring products meet – say, carpeting and a hardwood floor – it’s called a transition. Our professional installers will do their best to match the surface heights of various flooring products to minimize transitions and create a natural flow.

Our Specialty

Creating a complimentary flow of colors, textures and designs from one room to another is one of our specialties at Sail On. The installation process is the final step in a fully integrated flooring project….trust us to get it done right!

In home measurement

Our professional estimator visits your home and measures the full dimensions of rooms needing flooring. The estimator will also note details like what furniture needs to be moved, and if any existing flooring that needs to be taken up. From this information, we can now calculate the exact amount of flooring you will need to purchase and what the total cost to you would be. We can also produce a specific flooring layout plan from the installer, showing exactly how the floor covering should be cut and installed and where all seams will be placed.

Our remnant outlet is very exciting and fun for all of our customers. This is where the bargains really become serious savings on top brand carpeting.

Remnant Carpet ShowroomRemnants are bought direct from the manufacturer and all are first quality. When rolls of carpeting are made at the mills, their sizes vary from 100 ft in length to 300 ft. When retailers from around the country call in and buy small cuts from those rolls, there is a small balance of carpeting, which the carpet mill no longer needs. We will then buy several of those roll balances at a fraction of the regular price. That allows us to pass the factory savings directly to our customers.

All of our remnants are still warranted and can be installed with padding, just like any other carpet from our showroom. You’ll be amazed at the thousands of yards we actually have on hand and standing up for easy viewing and touching.
We can also customize any remnant to the shape or size you desire. Our goal is to provide every type of consumer a comfortable and enjoyable buying experience.

Remnant CarpetingOur remnant outlet also houses pallets of Bruce hardwood, on sale, ready for installation or cash and carry. We also stock all trim and metal transition strips for carpeting, laminate, ceramic and vinyl.

We stock a wide variety of adhesives, seam sealers, blades, staples, even ceramic tile setting materials and grouts. Do we have underlayment for vinyl or ceramic floors? No Problem! We’ve got what you need when it comes to floor covering.

UNBEATABLE DURABILITY
The melamine surfaces used on today’s laminates get its incredible durability from aluminum oxide. Second only to diamonds in hardness, aluminum oxide provides unsurpassed wear and stain resistance. The super strong, high-density fiberboard used in the core of today’s laminates help withstand denting from even the heaviest piano!

Spills happen, but laminate floors take them in stride. Juice, wine, grease and chocolate are easily wiped away. Cigarette burns, asphalt, shoe polish, paint, ink, crayon, and nail polish come clean with alcohol or nail polish remover. Candle wax and chewing gum can be gently scraped away.

Laminate Wood FloorsAPPEARANCE
A low luster wood-grained, textured surface gives laminate floors the best and longest lasting appearance. Advanced technology locks the color deep inside for vivid patterns and hues.

INSTALLATION
Laminate floors are designed to be laid as a floating floor above your existing floor, (except carpeting), without nails. Laminate glue is used between the planks in the joints, which fit tightly together with precise tongue and grove design. The underlayment padding used is a very dense and thin foam used to keep moisture rising from the sub floor. The foam padding also allows for walking comfort, added heat insulation and dampens noise.

Carpet Section

Nothing can offer the range of style, practicality, comfort and price that today’s carpet can.

It can be the center of attention, with bold colorations and patterns. It can fade into the background, providing a blank canvas upon which to decorate. It’s comfort food for your world, insulating against the cold, cushioning your feet after a hard day’s work and quieting your space. It can offer high performance where needed, low cost where required. It’s kid-friendly, health-friendly and even eco-friendly. And with continuous improvements in yarn technology, today’s carpet can retain it’s beauty for many years.

In fact, carpeting’s unlimited versatility can result in one of it’s most perplexing problems…that is, “Which Carpet Is Right For Me?”

Take some time to browse our carpet department style-by-style. Learn which styles are right for YOUR lifestyle. Traditional textures and plushes, durable berbers, cutting-edge traceries or trend-setting friezes. Nylons vs. PET’s vs. Wools vs. Polypropylenes; they all have advantages and sometimes disadvantages.

FINDING THE RIGHT COLOR
Your carpet and the walls are the two largest areas in a room so they control the color theme. When selecting a carpet color, do not limit yourself to how the room looks as it is today. Instead start with the carpet and aim for the right color scheme. Paint or wallpaper is relatively inexpensive. Draperies can easily be changed, and reupholstering the covers for furniture can change the entire feel of a room.

Carpet color and texture strongly influence the character of your room. Rooms that lack sunlight can be warmed and lightened with a sunny yellow, apricot, or a soft warm beige carpet. Cool colors such as blues and greens are often used to soften or cool a room, which has many windows or a sunny exposure. Some additional color selection tips:

  • Light colors generally show fewer footprints; dark colors show less soil and stains.
  • A dull yarn will show fewer footprints; lustrous yarns, while shiny, will show more highlights and accents.
  • To minimize maintenance, light colors are best restricted to areas of the house, which are used less, such as a formal living room, dining room and guest bedrooms.
  • Multicolored carpets are extremely effective in minimizing the affects of everyday dirt and soil.
